Cashing in on Commander #1: Eggs!

Today I take the time to go over a new combo to come out from the C19 commander product!

With the recent release of C19, and by proxy the release of many new commanders, I thought I’d take today to talk about one of them and a very powerful combo to come out with it. Today, we’re scrambling around with Atla Palani, Nest Tender! Before we get started, remember to check us out on Twitter @MTGOracle and follow me on TwitterInstagramTwitch, and YouTube! My name is Blue, let’s begin.

So first off, let me explain the specific combo I’m talking about. First, you need a sac outlet that produces at least , we’ll use Ashnod’s Altar. Next, you need Thornbite Staff. Finally, you need Atla herself.

In case you don’t know how it works, you attach the staff to Atla, make an egg with Atla, then sac the egg to altar to generate . Since a creature died, Thornbite Staff says to untap Atla. Now you have and an untapped Atla to do it again. This means you can can put every creature in your deck onto the battlefield. From which, depending on the creatures you put in your deck, there are endless possibilities. Let’s talk about those individually.

So the first interaction we could do here, of many might I remind you, is Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Zealous Conscripts. If you’re unfamiliar, Kiki Jiki makes a copy of Consripts. Then Conscripts “gains control” of Kiki-Jiki to uptap it, then you rinse and repeat the process untill you have as many number of copies of Conscripts as you want. It’s a simple combo that works similarly to the Splinter Twin combo.

After that, you can do some crazy stuff with Craterhoof Behemoth. This is less of a combo and more just putting every creature from your deck on the battlefield and attacking with it all. Winning is relatively high here since most of your creatures, if not all, will be massive You’ll be able to attack for at least X, where X is Y*Y, Y being equal to the number of creatures you control.

Probably the easiest “combo” here is basically anything that triggers when a creature enters the battlefield. Since the initial combo with Atla can make infinite egg tokens, even without creatures in your deck, you can still win long after you’ve emptied your library. As far as creatures with these effects go, there’s plenty of them. The one most likely to end the game: Purphoros, God of the Forge. This allows us to deal two damage for every creature that enters the battlefield under our control. We could use Soul Warden to gain infinite life, or Suture Priest to the same affect. There are a ton of ways to win the game with infinite enter the battlefield triggers, you just need to find whichever ones work for you.

Overall, I think Atla can be a good deck, but with this, the deck has the potential to win with an infinite combo finish. Even if infinite combos aren’t your style, you can just leave out the staff or Altar from the deck and you’re left with a pretty decent Naya creature deck.
