Commander Oracles: Let’s Make Boros Good Again

It’s Brandon from the MTG Oracle team here and you may be wondering why I am bothering with these shenanigans. Truth is… well, I am bored and I enjoy making commander fun. So I will be reviewing 10 Cards that assist in Boros that get past their lack of card draw and lack of ramp as well as everything else in between. Here we go!

Light up the Stage

One thing that red and white both can do very well is grabbing a big thing and smashing your opponent over the head with it. Yes, people hate this part because Boros is bad at making friends, with all of its dragons, angels, and fireballs. Now, what if with that you can effectively draw 2 cards for 1 mana? Well, Light Up the Stage does that extremely well, as seen in Standard and Pioneer. So why not Commander?

Sunforger

Who likes the ability to tutor out a 4 CMC spell at instant speed for 5 mana? Everyone does. That’s why this ridiculous equipment needs to be played in every Boros deck. you never know when some spell, like Path to Exile, can just win you a game.

Sword of the Animist

I know, I am cheating on this a bit. As it is a piece of colorless equipment. Seriously, if you do not know about this ridiculous sword then you’re not living. Also fun fact: My playgroup calls this ‘Sword of Anime’. You attack and ramp. Boros loves attacking. Any more questions?

Deflecting Palm

Opponent: I attack you with a 1000/1000 Double Strike, Hexproof, Indestructible.

You: No you

Balefire Liege

In Commander, I love creatures that just have so much upside with very little mana needed to use them. Lightning Helix on every Boros cast! Sign me up! Plus, it anthems your creatures which is always a plus in such a beat down strategy. Unless you are playing Firesong and Sunspeaker and we don’t talk about them.

Eerie Interlude

One thing any creature deck hates is board wipes. Well, what happens when a Wrath of God wipes out your legion? We’ll make them into ghosts and tell your opponent there is no hope. Then, as every ETB trigger happens again, you stare at your opponent that wiped the board as you announce each trigger and smile.

Brightflame

The best part of a Commander match is when you realize you’re the only person with red and white creatures. Why is that you may ask? For the glory of the Legion, of course! All laughs aside, Brightflame can end games, wiping out your enemy’s creatures and gaining you enough life to just stabilize out of nowhere. Honestly, when I think of Boros, all I can think of is… purge.

Lightwielder Paladin

For some dumb reason, I have never seen an opponent become scared of this card until it smacks them and exiles their Dragon or God. Then their tactical analysis engine kicks into gear and they dig for removal before the next smack hits them. Attach some Swords onto him and you have a deadly threat.

Boros Charm

Charms are well, charming. 3 modes each with increasing relevance stacked onto one 2 mana card. Double strike is devastating, permanents gaining Indestructible is unyielding, and 4 damage at instant speed is historic. I think every Boros deck should run this card.

Assemble the Legion

Nothing says Boros more than Assemble the Legion. You slowly create an inescapable army that, if not dealt with, will surely crush any enemy that ignores it for too long. With the flexibility and battlefield tactics of Boros, you can use this army to annihilate any foe.
