Commander Oracles: Let’s Stab Stuff
Hey all its me Fox MTG back from the dead with another bathroom reader. Everyone knows I love Black spells, the murder, the mayhem, the Vampires. Oh yes please.
So how about I give you my top 10 favourite mono black kill spells for EDH.
10. Hero’s Downfall
This spell is just an all star, combining Planeswalker and Creature removal into a very lovely 3 mana spell. Instant speed just makes this thing a better Murder and should be put into every black deck.
9. Vraska’s Contempt
Who doesn’t remember this 4 mana annoy target player card? Dominaria standard was full of it and I think your EDH deck should be as well. However, yes the 2 life is irrelevant but its still an exile spell for 4 mana at instant speed. Such great value
8. Price of Fame
In EDH everyone is playing a legendary creature. How does a 2 mana kill spell that also allows you to not just scry 2 but BETTER SCRY 2. In my honest opinion why wouldn’t you run it? Furthermore it can be used against non-legendary creatures for 4 mana which still is an excellent deal. There’s no reason you shouldn’t play it.
7. Murderous Rider
Imagine a kill spell that comes back as a creature and then dies going back into your library. Yeah that’s a card. Use it as a blocker after killing off their problem creature or Planeswalker and even gain a little life back. Versatile yet effective, just what the necromancer ordered.
6. Walk the Plank
So before someone tells me this card sucks can you think really hard for a second. What’s the chance your opponent is playing a Merfolk creature? quite low. So play this amazing kill spell that is extremely effective… unless your opponent is playing Merfolk tribal.
5. Eliminate
This card is amazing for early game and even some late game plays. 2 mana to take care of some of the more problem Planeswalkers like Ashiok, Dream Render or Teferi, Time Raveler which can lock out games. Just 2 mana and all your problems are gone.
4. Heartless Act
Be heartless, commit the act of VALUE. Sometimes you’re being beaten by this crazy lifelink counter, deathtouch counter Storm Crow and you just need to take down GOD. This is your blade of slaying. Destroy the gods with this 2 mana spell. Make me proud
3. Reckless Spite
Sometimes all you need is Caffeine and Spite to get through life (quote me on that) and well I have the spite right here. What’s more black than killing 2 creatures and then losing 5 life cause you’re SO ANGRY AND SPITEFUL.
2. Slaughter
So Brandon… Why is this card here?
To be completely honest its an ok card but the name is really cool
1. Attrition
Yes this spell is an enchantment but in the right deck it just destroys boards and allows you a sac outlet. Imagine an aristocrats deck where you just lay this down and board wipe every turn. It is perfect for board stalling to set up the game ending combo and it deserves to be on this list
In Conclusion Black is such a powerful colour in EDH and deserves to be played to its most powerful potential and I hope this article helped you become a better magic player as a whole. Cheers
