Commander Oracles: A Few Bends Before the Break

Hello again, it’s me, Brandon. I hope you missed me because today I will be bringing home some sweet pulls. Today I will be talking about a few Commanders that bend the color pie yet aren’t too broken. I was inspired to write this list because of a person I played with on an EDH session, he destroyed me with a mono-red reanimator shell which will be our first selection. So sit back, feet up, grab a cup of coffee and get ready to have your mind jogged.

Feldon of the Third Path

Feldon is one crazy guy. He is an artificer that feels like he should be black since, you know, he reanimates things with no downside! In addition, they become an artifact and actually place the creature in the safest place other than your hand, your graveyard. Combine this with cards like Vicious Shadows and Pathrazer of Ulamog to completely annihilate your opponents while their jaws are on the ground. Furthermore, you can just run a typical artifact theme to make your opponents put their guard down before punching them in the face with an Eldrazi. Good times.

Dosan the Falling Leaf

Green isn’t known for obstructing others from doing things, this is mostly a white ability. However, if you wish to build a ‘Control Sucks’ deck then I recommend Arasta of the Endless Web or similar cards like Collector Ouphe. The whole idea is a Taxes style green deck and if you build it correctly you may not have any friends after.

Patron of the Moon

Blue sucks at ramp, well most of it does, at least. Let me introduce you to my favorite moon spirit who, for just 1 mana, allows you to put 2 lands into play tapped at instant speed. However, why does Patron of the Moon do this? Well, thanks to Moonfolk, that terrible Kamigawa block tribe; they do abilities by returning lands to their controller’s hands. Furthermore, just playing him as a meme deck where you attempt to out ramp your opponents is so much fun with him and Thawing Glaciers. Enjoy the crazy shenanigans.

Toshiro Umezawa

Black is known for graveyard themes but Flashback has always been a red or blue ability. Though his ability is not actually Flashback it is mechanically the same ability. Playing a removal theme would be amazing since you’d kill a creature then use another spell to kill another creature to rinse and repeat. Furthermore, he plays well as a basic good stuff mono-black deck. I cannot wait to see what you all pull off.

Tomik, Distinguished Advokist

White loves protecting things, its basically what white does on a daily basis. Lands however are rarely seen in cards for things they protect. However, there are a few cards like Terra Eternal. Anyways, the deck idea with this guy is board wipes and mass land destruction. You want to use cards that will become one-sided like Fall of the Thran and Sun Titan To deprive your opponents of resources while also giving you every ounce of value that you can. This is white at its craziest.

Conclusion

Magic the Gathering is one of the best games in the world because of its amazing diversity. I hope I could have helped you all today improve your Commander and Magic experience as whole. Take care, everyone!
